Mammut's assisted-braking belay device without moving parts or levers: in a fall the brake insert interacts with the belay carabiner and blocks the rope. It works on the tube principle for lead and top-rope belaying with single ropes of 8.7 to 10.5 mm; Mammut recommends its Smart HMS carabiner. The first-generation Smart launched in 2009; the 2.0 has a new brake insert and revised geometry. 80 g, 90% aluminium and 10% steel; EN 15151-2:2012 and UIAA 129.
