Shoes ranked by fit for your foot shape

One row per shoe model: first every shoe with 5 or more reports, then the ones with fewer. Within each group, shoes are ranked by the share of climbers with the chosen foot shape who rated them perfect at toes, forefoot and heel at once, shown with the count behind it ("7 of 7 perfect"), the gender split, the median downsize and a Tight / Perfect / Loose bar for each zone. Open a model to read the individual reports behind its row.

The models most often rated perfect in all three zones across every foot shape, at five or more reports. Pick a foot shape at the top of the page to rank every model for it.

How to read this

Each line under a shoe is one climber's report. Climbers who gave exactly the same answers share a line, marked ×2, ×3 and so on. These are personal experiences, not lab tests: a shoe with more reports gives a more reliable picture.

Downsize is the climbing shoe size minus the street shoe size, in EU sizes: -1.5 means one and a half sizes smaller than their street shoes, +0.5 half a size bigger.

Tight, perfect or loose is the climber's own verdict for the toes, the forefoot and the heel, not a measurement.

Repeat scans are merged: when someone enters the same shoe again with the same answers, or with the same sizes within a day, only their latest report counts. Reports where the climbing size and the street size are more than 4 EU sizes apart are left out as typing errors.

All reports come from the fit questions in our free foot scanner. How we collect and check the data is on the methodology page, and who runs the site is on the about page.

Questions

Which climbing shoes fit wide feet?

Set Forefoot width to Wide at the top of this page. The table then ranks every shoe by the share of climbers with wide feet who rated it a perfect fit, shoes with 5 or more reports first, with the count behind each share next to it. The section "Best-fitting climbing shoes by foot shape" shows the top three at a glance. A wide forefoot can come with a narrow heel, so set the heel rows too if you know them.

Does foot shape change how far climbers size down?

Downsize is the climbing shoe size minus the street shoe size, so -1 means one EU size smaller. Each shoe in the table shows the typical (median) downsize of the climbers with the foot shape you picked. The shoe model changes this number more than the foot shape does, so look at the row of the shoe you are considering.

How is my foot shape measured?

Our free foot scanner uses two phone photos, one of the sole and one from the side. Toe shape compares your big toe with your second toe. Forefoot width and heel width compare the width of your sole with its length. Heel depth is how far your heel sticks out behind the ankle. Each is compared with everyone else who scanned: Wide means roughly the widest third of feet of your size. Big toe looks at where the tip of your big toe sits: when it has drifted toward the second toe, the scan shows hallux valgus. After a scan, this page selects your shape for you. The big-toe row only marks your result, so the table does not shrink to a handful of reports.

Which climbing shoes fit hallux valgus (bunions)?

Set Big toe to Hallux valgus at the top of this page, and the table ranks every shoe by the share of climbers whose scan shows hallux valgus who rated it a perfect fit. The box "Best-fitting climbing shoes for hallux valgus" lists the three whose toe box they rated perfect most often. The scanner reads the drift from where your big toe's tip sits in the sole photo, so it is a measurement, not a diagnosis.

Why is my shoe not listed?

A shoe shows up only if it is in our catalogue and at least one climber with the foot shape you picked has rated it. Set more rows to "any" to include more climbers. If your shoe is still missing, nobody has rated it yet: scan your feet and add it.

Scan your feet - two photos, seven measurements - and this page fills itself in with your own foot shape. Browse all climbing shoes, or read how much climbers size down, by model and the best climbing shoes for narrow heels from the same scan database.
