How it works

Your photos are only visible to you and are deleted after 30 days.
What you give us. Two photos of your foot (from below and from the side), your sex, your street shoe size, and one fit feedback for at least one climbing shoe you've climbed in. Optionally your climbing grade, notes on how your shoes fit, and an email address if you want your results sent to you. No account or login is needed.
Photos: deleted after 30 days. We measure your foot from the photos and keep them for 30 days so you can retake one. During these 30 days, the photos are not visible to anyone else. After that they are deleted from our servers automatically.
What we keep. The measurements taken from the photos (length, widths, arch, instep, heel, toe shape), a drawing of your foot outline and your fit feedback. These make up your results page and stay until you ask us to delete them.
Who can see it. Each scan gets an ID; your results page is at an address containing that ID and can be opened by anyone you share the link with. Your email address and your photos are never shown to anyone else.
How scan data improves the site. Foot measurements and shoe fit ratings from all scans, without email addresses, names or photos, feed our shoe recommendations and the public fit reports page. Notes you write about how a shoe fits are shown anonymously, to help climbers with feet like yours find a better fit. You can object at any time.
Who processes it. Photos and results are stored with Supabase. The photos are measured on our own server in Germany and on a backup server we rent from Hetzner Online GmbH in Germany. The website's server functions run with Vercel in Frankfurt. If you enter an email address, the results email is sent through IONOS SE (Germany). No photos are passed to anyone else.
Deleting your scan. With an account, delete it yourself on the account page. Without an account, email roman@climbing-gear.com with the link to your results page, and we delete the scan, its photos, measurements and email address.
Most people's feet differ slightly in size and shape. Scanning both feet gives you the most accurate recommendations. It takes about one more minute.

This fine tunes the shoe preference and how much we weight outdoors-specific traits.
Rock type drives target stiffness.
An aggressive shoe puts the foot in a powerful but less comfortable position. A flat shoe trades performance for all-day comfort. It’s always a trade-off.
