Simond Vertika

Simond

One of Simond's most technical shoes, the current Vertika is built for route climbing on small holds. A full-length thermoplastic insert and Vibram XS Grip rubber add power and precision, while a slightly cambered, asymmetric last with a three-part toe and a moderate heel tensioner keeps it comfortable without losing edging power. A dedicated women's version narrows the metatarsal and heel volume for a lower-volume fit. The 2mm synthetic leather upper is built not to stretch or deform with use.

Best For

Best for sport climbing and bouldering on slab, vertical and overhang terrain. Aimed at hobby to intermediate climbers.

Strengths & Trade-offs

Strengths

  • Full-length thermoplastic insert adds real power on small holds
  • Three-part toe construction gives room over the toes without losing precision
  • Moderate heel tensioner locks the heel down without pinching
  • Dedicated women's fit narrows the metatarsal and heel, not just a smaller men's shoe

Trade-offs

  • Built for routes on small holds, not bouldering volumes; Simond's own Vertika Soft is the better choice there
  • Firmer and less forgiving underfoot than the Vertika Soft, by Simond's own comparison of the two

Sizing & Fit

Runs small and narrow, and it barely stretches. Simond advises half a size to a full size below street size, or one to two sizes for experienced climbers, but many owners find street size already tight, so try before buying. Feet with a longer second toe (Greek shape) sit badly on this last.

Fit profile: medium width, standard forefoot volume, wide heel, suits roman toe shapes.

Minimal stretch expected; minimal break-in; manufacturer suggests downsizing 0.5-2 EU from street size.

Stiffness

Measured stiffness: 0.51 on our 0-1 scale (0 = softest). Among moderately downturned shoes it sits between the Scarpa Instinct VS (0.41, softer) and the La Sportiva Miura VS (0.56, stiffer).
