Tenaya Tatanka

Tenaya

Lace-up version of the Inti, developed as Ramón Julián's performance shoe for routes demanding both sensitivity and all-day wearability. Slightly softer than the other Balance Pro shoes, the Tatanka prioritises feel and feedback over raw stiffness. Asymmetric toe box with Vibram XS Grip 4mm rubber channels power efficiently to the rock. Lace closure and powerful heel cup lock the foot in for sustained performance.

Best For

Best for sport climbing and bouldering on vertical and overhang terrain. Aimed at intermediate to advanced climbers.

Strengths & Trade-offs

Strengths

  • Softer than the Masai - better sensitivity on smears and volumes
  • Lace closure for precise, secure fit
  • Asymmetric toe provides good power transfer
  • Comfortable enough for long routes and multi-pitch
  • 4mm Vibram XS Grip lasts well on rough rock

Trade-offs

  • Softer sole means less support on micro-edges than the Masai
  • Laces slower to adjust mid-session
  • What you buy is what you get - no stretch to count on

Sizing & Fit

Size 0.5-1 below street size (Balance Pro line guidance); lace closure adjusts across foot shapes.

Fit profile: medium width, standard forefoot volume, medium heel, suits egyptian toe shapes.

Minimal stretch expected; minimal break-in.
