So iLL Free Range
So iLL
The Free Range is a medium-stiff, aggressively downturned velcro shoe from So iLL for bouldering and sport climbing. So iLL lists it as narrow-width with a narrow heel. In stock at 2 shops from 94.52 EUR.
The most aggressive shoe So iLL built: a strongly asymmetric last on Dark Matter rubber, closed with a single strap so it can be pulled properly tight in one movement. The result wraps the foot completely, which is what a shoe this downturned needs if the toe is to stay where it is put on steep terrain.
Best For
Best for bouldering and sport climbing on overhang and roof terrain. Aimed at advanced to elite climbers.
Among the 469 adult climbing shoes we track, the Free Range ranks in the top 21% for sensitivity, the top 25% for pocket climbing and the top 34% for edging.
How the Free Range fits
Narrow, aggressive last. The single strap takes up a lot of volume, so a wider foot will feel it before a narrow one does.
Fit profile: narrow width, low forefoot volume, narrow heel, suits egyptian toe shapes.
Minimal stretch expected; minimal break-in.

Stiffness
Measured stiffness: 0.40 on our 0-1 scale (0 = softest). Among aggressive shoes it sits between the La Sportiva Skwama (0.33, softer) and the La Sportiva Solution (0.43, stiffer).
